Meet Hannah Bres

Hannah Bres is a highly experienced Dietitian, Nutritionist, and Environmental Scientist with a lifelong passion for health and sustainability. Growing up on a semi-self-sustaining farm in southwest Western Australia, she learned early on that true well-being comes from working with nature, not against it. This foundational belief has guided her for nearly 2 decades as she empowers individuals and communities to improve nutrition while caring for the planet. As the founder and Managing Director of Green Nutrition Australia — the country’s first corporate nutrition company focused on people and the earth — Hannah combines science, practicality, and heart in everything she does.

With over 15 years of experience across Australia, Hannah brings a unique blend of environmental and nutritional expertise to various audiences. Her engaging and informative presentations are designed to inspire action from children and families to academics and health professionals. As a Senior Dietitian and Clinical Educator at Perth Children’s Hospital and a member of the Food and Environment Interest Group leadership committee for Dietitians Australia, Hannah continues to lead by example. Her mission is clear: to help every Australian enjoy a healthy diet while making choices that reduce environmental impact and support long-term well-being.

About the episode

In this episode, Hannah invites you to reflect on how your food choices affect your body and the planet. She encourages you to think of a healthy diet as more than just eating “right”— it’s about making thoughtful decisions that support your well-being and reduce environmental harm. You’re reminded that you don’t need to change everything overnight. Instead, small, steady changes can lead to big results.

Hannah talks about how spending time in nature can keep you active without needing a strict workout plan. Simple outdoor activities like gardening and walking help your health in natural ways. Being outside also helps you feel more relaxed and connected to the world around you. These types of movements are easier to stick with than going to the gym.

The main message is to respect your cultural background when it comes to food. Healthy eating isn’t the same for everyone, and that’s completely fine. She suggests honoring your own food traditions and not following strict diets or judging others. It’s more important to find what feels right for your body and way of life.

Hannah also reminds that healthy eating means being realistic and well-informed. She debunks common diet myths and highlights that nutrition should be personal, not based on trends. It’s important to rely on trustworthy sources and pay attention to how food affects your body and mind.

Meal planning is another key topic. Her tips include starting with just weekend meals, getting help from others at home, and keeping track of what you’ve already eaten to make planning easier.

The episode ends with a message to aim for steady, realistic changes instead of perfection. It’s about making choices that fit into your life. Simple steps like adding one plant-based meal a week, using leftovers in new ways, and learning about your food’s origins can make a big difference. This approach helps you care for both your health and the planet in a thoughtful way.

In conclusion

A healthy diet doesn’t have to be strict or complicated — it just needs to work for your life, your values, and your environment. Whether it’s planning meals with your family, trying a plant-based dish, or buying local produce, every small step counts. When you understand the bigger picture, making sustainable and nourishing decisions becomes a lot more meaningful — and easier to stick with for the long haul.
