Personal growth is not just about improving your skills or reaching goals; it’s also a thrilling adventure that includes having an open mind, embracing new experiences, and having the wisdom to learn from mistakes. In this episode, you’ll learn how to embrace personal growth that aligns with who you truly are, bringing more joy and fulfillment to your life.

Meet Pallavi Srivastava

Pallavi Srivastava is a seasoned Leadership and Personal Growth Coach with over 11 years of experience in coaching, therapy, and well-being. She is the founder and CEO of The Wellbeing Ways LLC, where she empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds to embrace their whole selves and develop deep, honest, and loving relationships with themselves.

With her extensive experience as both a therapist and coach, she has gained profound insights into the human capacity to create a fulfilling, growth-oriented, and resilient life. Also, she understands the challenges and frustrations that people often face while trying to implement ideas of well-being and fulfillment in their lives.

Moreover, Pallavi has helped clients from various industries, including science, technology, consulting, start-ups, and art, to lead more fulfilling and joyful lives. She has written a book titled Relationship with Self, which will be published later in 2023. The book draws on her firsthand expertise and real-life learnings to help readers explore and discover themselves and their relationship with themselves.

Pallavi’s mission is to enable individuals to develop a deep and powerful bond with themselves, enabling them to be present for themselves during both difficult and good times. She strongly believes that cultivating a healthy relationship with oneself is critical to living a life of joy, fulfillment, and peace.

About the episode

The conversation started when host Lu Ngo asked Pallavi’s definition of well-being. According to the latter, it is the journey of exploring and discovering what truly brings happiness and fulfillment and actively working towards it every day.

She added that well-being is not a destination but a process to be enjoyed despite the ups and downs. It varies for each person, encompassing finding joy in small things, pursuing passions, and slowing down or speeding up.

Pallavi also discussed the misconceptions about well-being, like that it is solely about constant positivity when it actually involves acknowledging and navigating difficult emotions. Another misconception is viewing well-being as a fixed destination when it is an evolving journey.

According to her, personal growth involves three essential elements: self-discovery, learning, and growth. It is a process of becoming a better version of oneself in a way that holds personal significance.

While personal growth can involve improving skills and talents and achieving goals, it goes beyond that since it encompasses having an open mind, embracing new experiences, and learning from mistakes and failures. It also entails being willing to step out of one’s comfort zone.

Lastly, she mentioned that those who experience personal growth possess several key characteristics, including curiosity, open-mindedness, and self-reflection.

In conclusion

Personal growth is an ongoing, individualized process that extends beyond specific life stages; it is not a one-time event or something pursued only when compelled. It involves continuously improving oneself and adapting to life’s challenges and uncertainties and demands long-term dedication.

Chronic fatigue is a condition that leaves people feeling tired all the time, even after resting. This can be frustrating and overwhelming, impacting your daily life and overall well-being. In this podcast episode, you’ll explore the basics of chronic fatigue, including its causes, symptoms, and the importance of seeking proper care to find relief.

Meet Dr. Evan H. Hirsch

Evan H. Hirsch, MD (also known as the EnergyMD) is a world-renowned Energy expert, best-selling author, and professional speaker. He is the creator of the EnergyMD Method, the science-backed and clinically proven four-step process to naturally resolve chronic fatigue and Long Covid.

Through his best-selling book, podcast, and international online programs, he has helped thousands of people around the world. He has been featured on TV, podcasts, and summits, and when he’s not at the office, you can find him singing musicals, dancing hip-hop, and playing basketball with his family.

About the episode

In this episode, host Gabriella Joustra and Dr. Evan H. Hirsch explored the impact of chronic fatigue on productivity and its symptoms.

According to Dr. Evan, personal productivity means being able to focus on what’s most important and not just putting out fires or reacting to external stimuli. He said that people often get personal productivity wrong by not scheduling their tasks and not being conscious of their actions.

Then he defined chronic fatigue as tiredness that is not relieved by rest and can result from the accumulation of mental, emotional, or physical stressors over time. Furthermore, chronic fatigue can range in severity, and symptoms may include brain fog, body pain, muscle cramps, temperature irregularities, and shortness of breath.

Dr. Evan said chronic fatigue can also be caused by deficiencies in hormones, vitamins, minerals, neurotransmitters, and lifestyle habits, as well as toxicities from heavy metals, chemicals, molds, infections, and other stressors.

Moreover, he said that identifying the specific causes of chronic fatigue is crucial for effective treatment, but it requires specialized knowledge that may not be readily available from conventional doctors.

In conclusion

Chronic fatigue is a complex condition that can significantly impact a person’s life and productivity. So, identifying the underlying causes and seeking specialized help from experts in functional and environmental medicine can be crucial for effective treatment and regaining a sense of vitality and well-being.

You may not know how to handle an emergency until you face one, so having emergency supplies in your cabinet is an essential first step. This episode will guide you through the crucial steps toward preparedness for emergency situations!

Meet Anthony DiMarino

Anthony DiMarino is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Personal Trainer from Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his Bachelor’s in Medical Dietetics from The Ohio State University and Master’s in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace University.

He is passionate about science, education, business, and helping people become the best versions of themselves. Also, he works to engage, empower, and educate others on improving their behaviors and habits, resulting in improved health and wellness. When not working, Anthony can be found exercising, reading, golfing, watching movies, or trying something new.

About the episode

This episode, hosted by Gabriella Joustra and Anthony DiMarino, offered advice on how to stock your cabinet in case of an emergency. He emphasized the importance of combining healthcare knowledge with business acumen for a successful practice.

Anthony advised against generalizations when grocery shopping and instead encouraged identifying personal goals and resources to create a plan. He also offered strategies to make healthy eating more affordable, such as shopping in-season and utilizing coupons and sales.

Moreover, he discussed the misconceptions about emergency preparedness and suggested shelf-stable foods to have on hand. He also offered tips for ensuring the safety of food during a power outage and recommended regularly evaluating emergency preparedness and making necessary adjustments.

In conclusion

Regularly assessing your emergency preparedness and making adjustments is crucial. An earthquake serves as a reminder to take proactive measures for unforeseen emergencies.

In times of crisis, prioritize safety over material possessions, focusing on saving yourself and your family while securing irreplaceable items like important documents. Additionally, a well-planned grocery list will enhance your preparedness, providing better protection for you and your loved ones during challenging times.

Setting boundaries is more than just saying “no.” It is also crucial for self-care and forming positive relationships. So, if you’ve been struggling with setting clear boundaries, this episode with Benjamin Shields will guide you.

Meet Benjamin Shields

Benjamin Shields is a clinical psychologist with 16 years of experience. He has his own practice, Spencer Street Psychology, in Melbourne, Australia, and is a board-approved supervisor.

He works with a range of conditions, including low mood and depression, anxiety, and responses to traumatic events, including single events and trauma and neglect that occurred in childhood.

Also, he has special interests in the ways that the nervous system and mind interact, using top-down and bottom-up approaches to treatment. He is researching several brain networks involved in post-traumatic stress disorder, sense of self, and neurofeedback to help people to recover from traumatic experiences.

Other topics he has been able to talk about include post-traumatic stress disorder, early trauma, how core beliefs influence one’s life, worry and rumination, and depression.

About the episode

This episode, hosted by Tia Harmer with guest Benjamin, started when the latter defined boundary management. According to him, it involves effectively establishing and maintaining personal boundaries in various aspects of life and encompasses the ability to set limits, say ‘no’ when necessary, and prioritize one’s own well-being.

He also talked about resilience, which is often misunderstood as being immune to stress or displaying no emotions. However, boundary management emphasizes the significance of maintaining healthy emotional responses and practicing self-care, and it recognizes that resilience does not entail invincibility but rather involves being adaptable, flexible, and capable of bouncing back from challenges.

Moreover, Ben said that boundary management refers to the concept of setting limits or edges for oneself and understanding how those boundaries interact with others. It involves maintaining personal boundaries and managing them in both directions: internally within oneself and externally with others.

On the other hand, he mentioned that people with pleasing personalities might struggle with boundary management and face difficulties such as vulnerability to exploitation, burnout from constantly prioritizing others’ needs, and internal conflicts between their giving nature and other parts of themselves. These challenges can lead to changes in relationships and a shift in one’s orientation toward oneself and others.

Ben also shared some practical tips for building boundary management skills. One aspect of his practice involves being able to detect when something doesn’t feel right or when there’s a strain on his boundaries. Then he acknowledges that self-awareness is crucial to understanding his own feelings and the challenges he faces in relation to boundaries.

In conclusion

Good boundary management is essential for personal resilience as it helps protect individuals from stress, maintain social support, and develop a stronger sense of self.

However, practicing boundary management is an ongoing process and is not always perfect. Learning to say ‘no’ is an important aspect of boundary management, as it allows individuals to establish and communicate their needs and preferences.

Implementing effective stress management strategies is vital for fostering a healthy and thriving workplace.

Meet Dr. Dan Andreae

Jealousy is a tricky feeling that can make people doubt themselves, feel bad about how they look, and expect too much from relationships. But is it okay to be jealous? And how can you overcome jealousy to bring more love into your life and relationships?

Meet Susie and Otto Collins

Susie and Otto Collins are married soul mates and on a mission to share that relationships don’t have to be a struggle, whether you’ve been together for five months or 50 years. As certified Transformative coaches, authors, and speakers, they are passionate about making this world a more loving place by helping people understand how life and love really work.

Since 1999, they’ve taught practical, easy ways to find and keep passion strong and alive over the years, how to heal jealousy, communicate with love, openness, and compassion even when it’s tough, and how to stay connected even when life throws challenges your way.

Together, they are the authors of No More Jealousy, Magic Relationship Words, Stop Talking On Eggshells, Should You Stay or Should You Go, Relationship Trust Turnaround and many other programs.

About the episode

In this episode, host Aditi Kutty was joined by Susie and Otto. The couple believes relationships are about spiritual growth, learning, and healing. They emphasized that relationships are not limited to romantic connections but encompass all interactions with people.

Also, Susie and Otto argue that relationships today offer more freedom and the opportunity to show up as one’s authentic self. They also highlighted the importance of questioning traditional roles and expectations in relationships and emphasized the value of being true to oneself to foster better connections with others.

According to the couple, jealousy results from fearful thoughts and beliefs that something or someone will be taken away from you. They debunk the idea of being a “jealous person” and emphasize that jealousy stems from the thoughts one chooses to believe and consider as reality.

They also describe extreme cases of jealousy involving constant phone checking, interrogating about conversations, and shifting blame onto the partner. However, they differentiate between violations of agreements and genuine jealousy issues. Susie and Otto suggested that jealousy serves as a wake-up call, indicating the need for self-healing and self-esteem work.

Lastly, Susie and Otto discussed a practice and habit that can help prevent or manage feelings of jealousy in romantic relationships. They mention a technique called “the work” by spiritual teacher Byron Katie, which involves asking four questions, including: “Is it true?”, “Can I absolutely know that it’s true?”, “How do I react when I think that thought?” and “Who would I be without that thought?” They highlight the power of this practice in bringing focus to the truth of one’s jealous thinking and promoting honesty with oneself and others.

In conclusion

In a romantic relationship, jealous thinking can lead to mistrust, breakdowns in communication, and a lack of authenticity. But you can overcome this through self-awareness, letting go of destructive patterns, and fostering healthy habits, which are crucial for personal growth and healthier relationships.

The path to relationship satisfaction is not always smooth. As you explore the shadowy realm of infidelity, which is defined as any form of betrayal within a romantic connection, it poses a formidable threat to relationship satisfaction. In this episode with Idit Sharoni, you will gain valuable insights into the key ingredients for a satisfying relationship and the reasons behind infidelity.

Meet Idit Sharoni

Idit Sharoni is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. She is the owner and founder of Relationship Experts — where a strong team of specialized therapists provides services to couples and individuals in relationships.

From her private practice based in Miami, she and her team provide online marriage counseling in Florida and infidelity recovery all over the globe. Additionally, she is the host of a popular podcast called Relationships Uncomplicated, where she shares tips and ideas with her listeners.

About the episode

The conversation started between the host Aditi Kutty and the guest Idit Sharoni when the latter defined relationship satisfaction. She said that it is challenging to pinpoint a single definition as it varies for different individuals and couples. However, she identified core needs that most people share, including the need to feel loved, safe, and respected.

Moreover, she explained infidelity and its relationship to relationship satisfaction. She defined infidelity as any betrayal within a romantic relationship, ranging from physical affairs to inappropriate texting or flirting.

Idit mentioned that secrecy and an erotic charge are key elements that contribute to infidelity. Furthermore, she said that infidelity may not always stem from dissatisfaction in the relationship itself but can result from personal journeys or conflict avoidance.

The impact of relationship satisfaction on relationships is also explored. Idit asserted that the quality of a relationship significantly influences overall life satisfaction. A strong and satisfying relationship provides a sense of security and support, enabling individuals to handle challenges better. On the other hand, a dissatisfying relationship can magnify even minor problems and lead to feelings of discontentment and falling apart.

She provided insights on how to respond when a partner expresses dissatisfaction in the relationship and emphasized the need to consider it as a bid for connection, showing vulnerability and a desire to improve the relationship. Responding with defensiveness, avoidance, or attacks can hinder open communication and lead to further dissatisfaction.

Idit also said that it is crucial to acknowledge and appreciate the partner’s willingness to share their feelings for a constructive conversation. Successful recovery involves going through phases of healing, learning from the experience, and ultimately restarting a new and improved relationship.

In conclusion

Relationship satisfaction varies among individuals and couples, but core needs like feeling safe, loved, being trusted, and showing respect are commonly sought.

While infidelity can disrupt relationship satisfaction, it’s important to note that it doesn’t always stem directly from dissatisfaction. It’s a complex issue with multifaceted causes. However, relationship satisfaction can be repaired through dedicated healing processes and the gradual rebuilding of trust. Remember, nurturing a fulfilling relationship requires continuous effort.

It serves as a fundamental basis for ethical behavior, nurturing meaningful relationships, and achieving professional excellence. So, how can you cultivate empathy? This episode with Gregory J. Depow will provide you with insights and various strategies!

Meet Gregory J. Depow

Gregory J. Depow, an SSHRC Doctoral Fellow in the Psychology department at the University of Toronto. He is a rockstar in the field of psychology, focusing on understanding how individuals perceive and engage with the thoughts and emotions of others and how this affects their overall well-being. With a wealth of experience in both laboratory and real-world research, he is a true expert in his field.

About the episode

In this episode, hosted by Lu Ngo together with the esteemed guest, Gregory, they explored the nature of empathy and then shed light on its importance and its connection to one’s overall happiness.

Gregory discussed how empathy encompasses sharing emotions, displaying compassion, and adopting others’ perspectives. He said that empathy was not limited to mere understanding but also involved genuinely caring about the emotions of others.

Furthermore, he discussed subjective well-being and the misconception that one’s well-being is fixed. According to him, through mindfulness practices and self-reflection, individuals could gain greater control over their well-being by challenging negative thought patterns and cultivating a more positive mindset.

Gregory highlighted the significant role of empathy in driving pro-social behavior. By cultivating empathy, a person can understand and share the feelings of others, motivating them to engage in actions that benefit others’ well-being.

He also mentioned some examples of pro-social behavior, such as volunteering, providing emotional support, and contributing to charitable causes, illustrating how empathy fosters a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

In conclusion

Empathy serves as a fundamental component of human interaction and plays a pivotal role in one’s well-being. Understanding, sharing, and caring about others’ emotions could eventually lead to profound personal growth and enhance subjective well-being.

Aging is a natural process. However, it has also been described as the primary risk factor for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. But do you know what other impact aging has on personal life and growth? This episode will guide you on how to prevent an aging brain and memory loss.

Meet Dr. Jonathan Schooler

Jonathan Schooler, Ph.D., a Distinguished Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara. He earned his BA from Hamilton College in 1981 and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1987.

His research on human cognition explores topics that intersect philosophy and psychology, such as how fluctuations in people’s awareness of their experience mediate mind-wandering and how exposing individuals to philosophical positions alters their behavior.

Dr. Schooler is also interested in the science of science (meta-science), including understanding why effect sizes often decline over time and how greater transparency in scientific reporting might address this issue.

He is also a former holder of a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair and is a fellow of a variety of scientific organizations, is on the editorial board of a number of psychology journals and is the recipient of major grants from both the United States and Canadian governments as well as several private foundations. His research and comments are frequently featured in major media outlets such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Nature Magazine.

About the episode

In this episode hosted by Aditi Kutty, Dr. Schooler said memory refers to the mental impact of past experiences that shape one’s current state, and it has different types, including implicit, episodic (personal experiences), semantic (general knowledge), and procedural (skills).

He also said memory loss is a common phenomenon associated with aging. Some older adults can retain autobiographical memories from earlier stages of life quite well, but they may experience difficulties remembering recent experiences and relatively insignificant day-to-day events.

Moreover, Dr. Schooler highlighted some habits, including exercise, as a beneficial activity that promotes neurogenesis, especially in the hippocampus, which is associated with memory; meditation, as a way to train the frontal cortex and reduce stress; and other factors like sleep and a balanced diet are also emphasized for optimal memory function.

In conclusion

There are various ways to prevent memory loss, including engaging in activities that stimulate the mind, doing physical exercises, and maintaining social connections—these can help support cognitive function as people age.

However, it is also important to note that while these habits can support brain health, memory loss and cognitive decline are natural aging processes, and complete prevention may not be possible.
