About the episode

The conversation started when host Lu Ngo asked Dr. Stabolidis’ definition of happiness. For the latter, happiness is about being comfortable in your own skin — it’s embodying one’s feelings and emotions and not being afraid of them.

Dr. Stabolidis shed light on anxiety, explaining that it’s the body’s response to various threats, whether physical, psychological, or emotional. When the amygdala can’t distinguish between real and imagined dangers, an anxiety disorder may emerge.

Moreover, he said that anxiety is not necessarily mutually exclusive to happiness in many ways. Sometimes, a person needs anxiety to get places on time, to make sure that they are treating people well and they’re keeping socially connected. However, anxiety can certainly get in the way of happiness if it’s excessive.

He also shared some practical tips on how to manage anxiety, such as doing daily exercise and may incorporate nature when doing some walks; having a relaxation or meditation routine, which helps calm the nervous system and release tension; and connecting with loved ones and being vulnerable with them, which are also crucial for managing anxiety.

In conclusion

Incorporating healthy and practical habits into your daily routine can have a profound impact on managing anxiety and increasing happiness. By reducing distractions and becoming more comfortable with your emotions, you can experience a greater sense of well-being. Consider that anxiety is a normal part of life, and by developing healthy ways to manage it, you can lead a more fulfilling and joyful life.
