In this podcast episode, Corey Jackson will help you deal with negative emotions and learn what good practices must be developed.
Corey is a PhD candidate researching the underlying causes of anxiety, depression, and emotional dysfunction. His research is the culmination of a degree in Psychology and Sanskrit plus more than 20 years of studying and translating Buddhist philosophy from Tibetan to English.
Comfortable in a research lab or mountain monastery, Corey’s work and research sit at the intersection of scientific and contemplative traditions. These days he works as a meditation teacher, and emotion and stress management coach. Before any of this, he was a jazz pianist in Toronto, Canada.
Corey said that emotions are signposts, and humans have an emotional reaction to them. But to surpass negative emotions, whether fear, anger, etc., one should practice strong mindfulness. This will help you deal with those emotions, and this practice will make it easier for you to accept unpleasant thoughts.
Additionally, by practicing mindfulness, you can learn to accept uncertainty and become more aware of what is happening, including your feelings and responses. Corey reiterated that it’s the most important thing since it carries three good things: a sense of relaxation, clarity, and a spillover effect.
It’s normal to experience negative emotions like frustration, sadness, fear, and anger. They are an essential part of life. Learning to cope with those emotions and practicing mindfulness is the key to well-being.
