Dating someone with anxiety can be challenging. Others who have an anxiety disorder may constantly doubt their partner’s love. This episode with Nicholas Balaisis will help you learn the best practices for dealing with relationship anxiety.
Nicholas Balaisis is a psychotherapist in private practice west of Toronto, Canada. He works with individuals and couples, specializing in anxiety/depression, relationship issues, and male shame and self-esteem. He is also a lecturer at the University of Waterloo.
In this episode hosted by Adity Kutty, Nicholas explained that a relationship has three components: value, support, and individuality. He also mentioned that there are ways to get rid of relationship anxiety, and they involve not just focusing on your partner but assessing yourself as well. It is essential to know what you need to feel to be secure.
Nicholas also recommended asking your partner with an ‘anxiety history questionnaire’ where both individuals can discuss the things that matter to them, like what are the things that make one anxious and how often these things occur. Making a healthy conversation with your partner is vital to avoid relationship anxiety and so they can cope with stress.
Relationship anxiety describes the feeling of worry and doubt regarding your relationship with your partner. But for a relationship to work, both individuals should work together and have good communication with one another.
