Margie Ulbrick: Mindfulness in A Relationship and Its Relations with Emotional Availability | Reloscope #2

No matter how careful you are, all relationships may encounter obstacles on their paths and difficulties that need to be overcome. So how does being mindful improve relationships? Dr. Margie Ulbrick shared in this episode the practices and habits of being mindful and their relation to emotional availability.

Meet Margie Ulbrick

Margie is an internationally certified relationship and trauma counsellor who specializes in helping couples and individuals with all aspects of personal and relationship well-being. She is also a Certified Happy For No Reason Coach. Margie has been a therapist in private practice for over 15 years. 

With training that includes family therapy, emotionally-focused couples and individual therapy, discernment counselling, grief and trauma counselling, mindfulness, managing anxiety and depression, and Somatic Experiencing, she has a range of skills and experiences that help her guide clients to feel happier, healthier, and more settled. 

Additionally, she is a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner,  which means she works to guide and assist with the regulation of the nervous system and conditions that may arise from situations that have been too overwhelming or isolating to manage. 

About the episode

In this episode,  Margie explained the importance of having romantic relationships and their role in fulfilling needs for intimacy and connection. Also, she discussed that there is a huge overlap between being emotionally available and being mindful. Emotions are a part of the things you need to be mindful of, such as being open, trying to connect with your partner, etc., which are all part of being mindful in a romantic relationship.

Kitty explained that being open and available in a relationship signals commitment. And how emotional availability becomes one of the biggest problems people encounter in their relationships. She reiterated how essential it is to understand each other’s attachment styles and how they affect each other or the implications of what you’re doing to your partner. So that you can take care of vulnerabilities and triggers that may happen in the future.

Your relationship might be one of the most important things in your life. Additionally, having proper communication with your partner fosters a healthy connection. So by practicing good habits, you can build a strong relationship.
