Whether you’ve been dating someone for a while or are part of a long-married couple, you might be searching for ways to strengthen your relationship. This doesn’t have to be difficult; you can do a couple’s ritual. In this episode, you will learn what it means and its importance in any relationship.

Meet Jan Bayliss

Jan Bayliss has been counseling many individuals, couples, children, and families for over 20 years, specializing in grief and loss, post-separation issues, and domestic violence.

She is also a Child Consultant working with Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners who mediate with parents who are going through separation and divorce. Also, she is a Qualified Supervisor of counselors and the author of two children’s books: The Good/Bad Feelings Diary and My Very Own Good/Bad Feelings Diary Workbook.

About the episode

In this podcast episode hosted by Adity Kutty, Jan shared that couple rituals are something nice or something good somebody does for another without even thinking and are organic.

She also mentioned some practices to improve couples’ rituals. You can start with how your partner feels. For example, when your partner comes home tired, let them sit down and give them some hugs to make them feel better. This is important in any relationship since it builds a deeper connection.

Moreover, Jan said you should let and acknowledge what each other has, like love language and saying words of affirmation, and that is where some couples’ rituals will come from.

In conclusion

Couple rituals and love languages are powerful commitment tools—which can be small, daily acts—that help people establish a sense of meaning and nurture relationships.
